One of the reasons find challenges in doing their hair on a day to day routine can be found in the tools they are using. A cross between using old or incorrect tools to maintain and create style in the hair. A lot of my blowouts come out amazing because of technique and skill, but tools are necessary to create the look. I’m making sure the brushes, clips, combs, and towels are in top shape before I use them on a client. At home you should be looking at what’s in your bathroom. Here are a few things you can look at:
Clean brushes - You want to make sure you are removing hair from your brushes. You shouldn’t have a thick coat of hair clogged in your brushes. This is not allowing the brush to reach peak performance. The bristles can’t penetrate the hair like it should because of the barrier of hair stuck on the base.
Old brushes - Keep an eye on the bristles of your brushes. They should not be bent and/or missing. A brush at this point is not performing well anymore. the bristles are not penetrating to the scalp.
Combs - The same applies to combs. You want to make sure the teeth of the comb are not missing, bent, or broken.
Just looking at these things will help prevent damage and promote healthy styled hair. Clean well kept tools help to promote strength, shine, and movement in the hair. Well maintained tools also speed up the time it takes to get your hair done, and ultimately that’s the goal. Get out of the bathroom as fast a possible!
