Tools of the trade.

One of the reasons find challenges in doing their hair on a day to day routine can be found in the tools they are using. A cross between using old or incorrect tools to maintain and create style in the hair. A lot of my blowouts come out amazing because of technique and skill, but tools are necessary to create the look. I’m making sure the brushes, clips, combs, and towels are in top shape before I use them on a client. At home you should be looking at what’s in your bathroom. Here are a few things you can look at:

  • Clean brushes - You want to make sure you are removing hair from your brushes. You shouldn’t have a thick coat of hair clogged in your brushes. This is not allowing the brush to reach peak performance. The bristles can’t penetrate the hair like it should because of the barrier of hair stuck on the base.

  • Old brushes - Keep an eye on the bristles of your brushes. They should not be bent and/or missing. A brush at this point is not performing well anymore. the bristles are not penetrating to the scalp.

  • Combs - The same applies to combs. You want to make sure the teeth of the comb are not missing, bent, or broken.

Just looking at these things will help prevent damage and promote healthy styled hair. Clean well kept tools help to promote strength, shine, and movement in the hair. Well maintained tools also speed up the time it takes to get your hair done, and ultimately that’s the goal. Get out of the bathroom as fast a possible!

Does my hair have to be long for blowouts?

It doesn't have to be long. I've done blowouts on all lengths of hair. Including pixies. Blowouts are not only great for a super cool look, but with the right products your hair will feel amazing. Most of my clients get 2-4 days out of a blowout, but I have women that stretch it 7 days with the right hair care routine. Even as the style relaxes and the curls may fall you still have hair that has body, volume, and movement and smells good depending on the products. So whether your hair is long or even if it is short, a blowout will work just fine.

Listen Up!

Embrace your hair.  Listen to it when it’s telling you what to do.  When it tells you I need help.  Hair will tell you when it’s too dry.  When it’s weak and fragile.  When it’s shine and strong.  Some of us have the gift of hair that requires minimal effort while producing maximum results.  Most don’t.  Even the ones that do and make hair care look easy, effort is still required to keep those locks looking fresh.

When your hair speaks, listen.  Get the right shampoo.  Use the right prep products.  Stay away from certain products.  Use certain brushes.

Ideally you would come to me to blow your hair out whenever needed!  Until that happens your hair will guide you to the best results.  It’s up to you to listen.

Reason For A Blowout

If you are new to blowouts you might not know what are reasons to get a one. Here is the main reason I recommend blowouts to my clients, it is a path to healthy styled hair. You might be someone that is low/no maintenance and you might not know what to do with your hair. What products should you use? How often should you shampoo? What types of brushes should you use?

That’s just the beginning of the questions that lead many women to say forget it and make decisions that may not be working in your favor. That’s where a good blowout can help you see the possibility of your hair. In a hour you can see your hair in a way you have never seen it before. It will feel soft, it will have shine, it will have volume and body. During your blowout you can learn some tips and tricks for the type of hair you have and the routine you use.
